Pet Wellness & Preventive Health Care

We want you and your companion to enjoy a long healthy life together, and we believe that wellness care and disease prevention is critical to making that happen. Preventative healthcare involves a multi-faceted approach that includes evaluating your pet’s medical history, risk assessment, and current medical condition.

Pet Wellness & Preventive Health Care

We pride ourselves in providing wellness care customized to each individual patient for every stage of his or her life, beginning with a puppy or kitten plan for pediatric patients.  Each pet receives an individualized plan of wellness care that best meets his or her needs at each life stage. We work with you to develop the best plan of preventative health care possible for your companion.

In addition to a comprehensive annual physical exam, your pet’s personalized wellness plan may include intestinal parasite testing & control, heartworm prevention and flea control, individualized vaccination program, spay or neuter, behavioral and nutritional counseling and specialized blood and urine testing for all life stages.

Intestinal Parasite Control

Intestinal parasites including Hookworms, Roundworms, Whipworms, Tapeworms, and Coccidia can make your pet very sick, and in some cases, may cause death. Many of these parasites can also infect people. We recommend annual fecal testing to screen your pet for these parasites and prescribe medications to both treat and prevent parasite infections. Puppies and Kittens can be at higher risk for intestinal parasites because they have often acquired them from their mother before or soon after birth. Adult pets also need routine control of intestinal parasites since they routinely pick up new infections from their environment.

Flea & Tick Control Programs

Fleas and ticks not only irritate your pet, but they may also harbor and transmit diseases and parasites. Flea and tick bites can cause allergic skin reactions and even severe skin infections. We develop programs for the specific needs of your pet based on your own particular environmental situation. We will review with you the best ways to control fleas and ticks in your environment and work with you to ensure your pet stays flea & tick free. We test annually for tick-borne diseases such as Lyme, Ehrlichiosis, and Anaplasmosis. We believe preventatives are critical to keeping these diseases at bay.

Vaccinations

Vaccinations are vital for preventing serious and potentially fatal diseases. Every year, at your pet’s annual wellness visit, we will review your pet’s history and current medical condition and assess your pet’s risk of exposure to diseases. We administer vaccinations as needed for protection and based on the needs of the individual patient upon medical assessment.

Heartworm Preventative & Testing

Preventative Medications
Every dog should be on monthly heartworm preventative (HWP) to protect against heartworm disease as well as intestinal parasites. Monthly preventative is one of the simplest and most important things you can do to protect your canine companion’s health. Many preventatives also control common intestinal parasites, eliminating the need for additional monthly worming medications.

Testing
Heartworm testing typically begins in puppies 7 months and older and is repeated annually thereafter.
